Cant Wait to Eat

Learning how to cook is a joy. No other feeling beats smelling perfectly cooked food. For me, the hardest thing to do is to resist eating freshly cooked turkey, roast beef or even breads and cookies on cooling racks. The smell is just overpowering. Actually, the only thing stopping me from attacking the food is if I do, I’ll end up with a burnt tongue.

Cooling racks will cool the food on the outside while still slightly cooking the insides. If for example, you cooked roast beef and you carve it right away, you risk losing all the juice of the meat and drying it up right away. When the meat dries up it becomes tough as nails. Also a cooking rack will help the fat to drip out first before you consume it. It is best to spray your rack with non stick spray so your meat won’t stick to the rack.

Cast iron waffle iron

February 9th, 2010

Nothing beats mom’s freshly cooked goodies! It is therefore important that you make use of cookware that will yield to evenly-cooked food that your kids will love like hotcakes and waffles. Cast iron waffle iron can be mom’s great partner in the kitchen. It typically consists of two hinged walls that interestingly molds and gives the waffle a honeycombed pattern. This is heated by placing it on a burner.

Cast iron waffle iron usually has insulated handle that has adequate length to lessen heat exposure. Most brands are designed to fit any stove or fireplace. It retains the quality of the waffle because of its capacity to retain heat. However, you have to make sure that the unit you will buy is properly seasoned to prevent rusting.

pie pan

January 13th, 2010

Make your own pie crust at home instead of buying ready-made ones. Homemade pie crust will make your pies more delicious. To make, mix 12 ½ cups of white flour, 2 tbsp sugar and ¼ tsp of salt. Add ½ cup cold butter that has been broken into small pieces then pour in 8 tbsp ice water. Mix everything until the dough holds together.

Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface, knead then divide in half. Flatter each half into a disk, wrap in saran wrap and chill for half an hour. Roll out a disk on until you make a 12″ diameter circle. Place the circle in a 9″ pie pan and trim any extra dough from the edges. Place in the refrigerator until you are ready to make the pie.
