Pyrex ovenware

February 4th, 2010

We grew up with Pyrex. It is a brand name for glassware introduced in the early 1900s. Then, it was made from thermal shock resistant borosilicate glass. This is a type of glass known for having very low coefficients of thermal expansion making them resistant to thermal shock compared to other common glass. This kind of glass is still being used even if tempered soda lime glass is already also being used.

We were used to seeing the thick transparent Pyrex ovenware that came in sets of three lying around in our mother’s kitchens. They came into action when it was time to pour the batter for baking or when a casserole dish was put together. Pyrex may be known for their glass bake ware but they also carry ceramic, microwavable, stainless and non-stick cookware. They are all of superior durability, made with the needs of consumers in mind.

wire glassware

November 3rd, 2009

People loved to eat. Eating today is considered as a gastronomic experience. The food not only has to taste good but also look and smell good. Chefs want to plate their food in beautiful dishes and adorn their wine in wire glassware. If your guests don’t like the taste of your food, at least they’ll appreciate the artwork that came with it.

Wire glassware are beautiful art pieces. Not only are they functional they can be used to decorate your kitchen or dining room. Most wire glassware is relatively affordable. My favorite wire piece in my house is the flower vase I bought in Italy. It is adorned with semi precious stones.

beaded glassware

September 30th, 2009

My kitchen is my place in the house. It is the place where I stay to relax and recharge. I can lose track of time there. To personalize my kitchen and make it more homely, I use off trend kitchenware. It is my way of expressing myself. I use ceramic plates that have been hand painted. I also have beaded glassware that I made.

Making your own stuff is fun. I make my own bowls and plates. The monotony of making it is my form of meditation. I also make and buy beaded glassware. It’s so empowering when you are eating off and drinking from stuff you made. I also buy other wares from other artist. I find it so much more beautiful than ordinary kitchenware.

glass food storage containers

July 6th, 2009

I got married last year. Since I loved to cook, my wife and I filled up our bridal registry with kitchenware and knives. When we opened the gifts after the honeymoon, we noticed we got lots of glass food storage containers that were not on the list. We also got lots of picture frames. We decided to keep the essentials and swap the rest with the stuff we liked.

Glass food storage containers are good because it doesn’t absorb the taste or flavor of the food you keep in it unlike plastics containers. However, plastic containers are cheaper than glass, less expensive and you don’t have to be too careful when you are around them. Glass containers can break easily. Also, they can be very heavy especially when you put food inside. For me, the combination of both glass and plastics are ideal. I use glass for the food items I want to store for long periods of time like rice, pasta and sugar and plastics for everything else.
