Bigger Kitchen

January 11th, 2012

After moving out to my old apartment, I was finally able to enjoy a much bigger kitchen. I promised myself to get a more comfortable place as soon as I get promoted. This was my way of treating myself for having worked really hard for the past few months. After all, I love cooking and would want my home to provide me the comforts of baking and cooking whenever I so please.

Since I now have a bigger kitchen, I am more than excited to start cooking. I immediately bought some new pots and pans online, together with a Maxam 17pc kitchen tool set. This way, I would have all my needs readily available for me to start cooking in no time. The only thing left is for me to head out to the grocery for the ingredients I would need.

The name alone suggests it Eastern European origin. We associate this cooking vessel with the Russians, Persians and Turkish. The Samovar is a unique container that is used to heat water for making tea. Many samovars have an attachment on their lids that hold a teapot filled with tea concentrate. Traditionally they were heated with coal or charcoal but later versions use electricity.

The samovars’ appeal is in its unique body shapes that can be in the form of an urn, a barrel, cylinder or sphere. It is not of simple construction. A typical samovar consists of a body, chimney and steam vent. It also has handles and faucet, crown, drip bowl and teapots. They are also made of high-end metals such as copper, brass, bronze, silver, and gold; less valuable pieces are made of tin to nickel.

It is sometimes confusing when we talk of cutlery. Does cutlery refer to knives and instruments meant to cut food in particular? Why is it sometimes used to cover spoons and forks? Aren’t these instruments that we refer to as flatware? Is flatware, then a form of cutlery? It could be since it is sometimes used for cutting food on the plate.

Semantics isn’t that important anymore. We can avoid confusion by referring to spoons, forks and even table knives as silverware even if they are not made of silver. Does that confuse you some more? The important thing is that we know how to use them properly. Farthest from the plate is the salad fork next is the fork for the entrĂ©e and a smaller one usually located above the plate is for desserts. Did you pass the test?

Clean Kitchen

I always spend most of my time in the kitchen. I absolutely love to cook and bake especially for my family. It is through this way that I am able to monitor what they eat and infuse some healthy food options that most kids would hardly get to eat. As a passionate cook I must say that the most utilized equipment I have in my home is the stove top. As a full time mom, I am definitely enjoying my life as I have the chance to cook, the single thing I love to do.

Since I cook a lot, it is obvious that my stove can be the dirtiest spot in my house after I cook. It is for this reason why I would always need to spend a lot of time cleaning it up afterwards. Thanks to the wonders of porcelain drip pans, I need not have to exert that much effort in order to clean my stove. All I need is to clear out these pans and wipe a few of the oil and grime and I am done. This way I can sit down and enjoy the meal with my family without worrying much about the mess I have created.

Having a family that has very discriminating tastes, I would usually be busy in the kitchen in trying to whip up meals that my family enjoys. After all, it was I who have introduced some gourmet eats to them having worked almost my entire life in a hotel. I am now a full time housewife running my very own catering business. And when it comes to my clients, I would have to say my family is my most discerning customers.

A well-seasoned meal is the basic secret of serving good and delicious food. That is why a basic tool I have in my kitchen is salt and pepper shakers. This allows me to have my seasonings well and ready for when I need to adjust the taste of my food. They are great to have compared to other containers and canisters that would usually be kept in the cabinet. My salt and pepper shakers are right on my kitchen counter so that they are easy to reach in case I need to season the food. That way I can be more confident that the food coming out of my kitchen definitely tastes good.

Every chef setting up a kitchen will always need a set of mixing bowls. Whether it is for baking a cake or scrambling eggs for breakfast, there will always be a need for mixing bowls. The first thing to consider is the type of material the bowls are made of. Mixing bowls come in glass, plastic, stainless steel, copper, ceramic, pottery, and wood. A stainless steel mixing bowl set is well known for its durability. Plastic bowls are often preferred because of their light weight.

Most mixing bowls nowadays come in sets with several different sizes included. This will allow a cook to choose the bowl that best fits the cooking job at hand. Mixing bowls do not usually come with special features, but some of them come with lids which can prove to be very useful. Mixing bowls are often available wherever kitchen items are sold.
