How to Choose a Wok
The wok is associated with Chinese cooking. It is different from the more popular skillet in that it has a rounded bottom and slanting sides. Because of its structure it needs a special kind of stove top or special implements (i.e., wok ring) to adjust to the rounded bottom. The wok is ideal for stir frying meats and vegetables under intense heat. It is a cooking option that results in healthy and delicious dishes.
Experienced cooks swear by a cast iron wok set. However, since they are heavy and needs care and extra effort in maintenance, woks made of other materials have become popular. This will include copper, carbon steel and aluminium. Choosing the kind of wok to buy is a matter of personal choice. It will be a choice between the different kinds of materials, size and form.
