Here are some alternatives to the traditional turkey that is served at Thanksgiving:

*Roast turkey with oyster stuffing*Drain oysters and place on paper towels to dry. Set aside oyster liquid. Dip oysters in flour, then in a mixture of eggs and milk. Coat in crumbs made from soda biscuits. Heat butter in a skillet and fry until oysters are light golden brown. Set aside.*Melt butter in skillet and add onion, celery, and green pepper. Cook for about three minutes. Add sliced mushrooms and bread crumbs. Cook until crumbs are browned. *Put more breadcrumbs in a bowl and add parsley, sage, rosemary, and marjoram, season with salt and pepper. *Add bread and veggie mixture, drizzle with lemon juice and oyster liquid. Toss your mixture lightly. *Stuff mixture in turkey. Brush butter on the turkey and cover loosely with aluminum foil. Cook bird in 325 degree Fahrenheit oven for about 5 hours. Carve with a sharp carving knife.

When the weather turns cold, hearty soups are the order of the day. Here’s an easy recipe for healthy and hot vegetable chowder.

Vegetable chowder~Melt butter in large saucepan. ~Saute diced celery, carrots, potatoes, turnips onions and leeks. Add water, and season with salt, pepper, and sugar. Simmer for about 10 minutes.~Add peas and green pepper slivers and simmer for 5 more minutes.~Add milk and sprinkle with parsley for garnish.~ Ladle into a large serving bowl and sprinkle with grated cheese.
