Kitchens are at a loss without a good knife. Some prefer using ceramic knives because they are tougher than steel. And they can be sharper than the average steel knife. They don’t corrode nor rust so they are perfect for use in the kitchen.
For people who don’t usually sharpen their knives, ceramic knives are the best for them. Since ceramic knives don’t need to be sharpened even after years of use, investing on a good set is a smart choice. But they can be sharpened if you want to, though not through traditional ways. A material much tougher than ceramic is needed to sharpen these knives. They are best for slicing fruits, vegetables and boneless meats.

The use of cast iron in cookware is not very popular these days. The reason for this is that clean-up of cast iron cookware is difficult. It is suggested never to scour the pan as it will damage the surface. Some don’t even clean the pan at all but just wipes off solid materials left after cooking. Not all can accept this kind of clean-up so they prefer cookware that is easier to wash.
Some manufacturers have tried to meet housewives halfway. They have come up with enameled cast iron cookware which eliminates the need to season and prevents it from rusting. This version of the cast iron cookware is acceptable to the housewife because it can be cleaned thoroughly. Heat distribution is just as good. And besides, the enamel coating allowed for a more colorful appearance.

Forget the usual sausages you can buy from the supermarket. Learn how to make a true blue Cajun boudin sausage. Simply follow this easy recipe:
~Cook 2 pounds of pork meat (that has about 30% fat), 1 ½ pounds pork liver, 2 tsp. salt and 2 tsp. black pepper in water until the meat falls apart. Remove the meat and save some of the broth. ~While the meat is still warm, grind it with 1 large onion, 3 bunches of cut green onions and 1 tablespoon of chopped parsley. Save about ½ cup of the green onions and parsley mixture. ~Later, mix the ground meat mixture with the remaining green onions and parsley. Add 12 cups of cooked rice and enough broth to make a moist dressing. ~Stuff the dressing into sausage casing using a sausage stuffer. The end product may be refrigerated or frozen. ~Prepare for eating by steaming. Do not fry or cook in the microwave as it will shrink and burst the casing.

Different metals are used in making cookware. Each has its advantages and disadvantages. For instance, cast iron cookware is ideal for browning and slow cooking as it retains heat well. But delicate sauces will be better off cooked in a tin or stainless steel lined copper pan where heat is quickly transferred from pan to sauce.
While cast iron is very heavy, copper is very expensive and is high-maintenance. Aluminum, on the other hand, comes second to copper for heat conduction but is easily scratched and can affect food. Stainless steel is easy to maintain but poorly conducts heat. So choose cookware well depending on the chore you need it for.

Being a mother of school kids is like living in boot camp. I have to act as the commander who gets to order everyone around. I have to, or else, the kids wouldn’t even get to school on time everyday. Wake up, take a shower, eat your breakfast, brush your teeth, the orders go on and on.
Although we are always in a rush, I still make sure my kids eat their breakfast. This is one meal I am quite strict about. Breakfast usually consist of toast, thanks to my Rival toaster oven which I’ve had with me for more than a decade already, eggs, a slice of any fruit in season, and a glass of milk. Seeing my kids eat their breakfast assures me that they are ready for the day ahead.
