A sure sign that there is a serious cook in the house is if it is equipped with a butcher block. The butcher block is made for cutting but some just want to have it in the kitchen to add natural warmth to the ambience. A big slab of butcher block makes a good service as well as display area. Depending on the intended use, different kinds of finishes can be applied.

Butcher block countertops are made of thick strips of hardwood that are glued together to form a solid surface. A maple butcher block is a favorite piece of equipment in the kitchen. Other favorite materials are oak, cherry and walnut. Almost any variety of wood can actually be made into a butcher block but harder species are easy to live with and will most likely last longer. They are also better looking.

I come from a family of eaters. Weekly, my families, including my cousins, get together for a cook fest. We do this every Sunday lunch. For those who love to cook we exchange recipes. For those who love to eat get a great meal. We even have matching cookware sets for the cooks in the family.

Good cookware sets is vital to good cooking. I use to have a bad pan that made everything stick. Good cookware is expensive. That’s why it’s best to get a set. One set that I have includes a pan, pot for pasta cooking and a sauce pan. Sometimes, we cousins get together to buy a big cookware set and just divide it among ourselves.

Even before it became a hip thing in our kitchen, they were being used by our forebears in baking their breads. The baking stone is a flat stone that is used in baking. Food is put on the stone inside the oven. Today, the baking stone is generally associated with baking pizza even if there are other applications for its use in baking. Only those cooking professionally or are passionate about cooking will have a baking stone in their kitchen.

Baking stones are made of a variety of materials. Clay stones are popular but marble is also commonly used. Granite is the ultimate in baking stone material. It is tough and can hold a lot of heat. Baking stones are placed in a cold oven and allowed to warm with the oven. It should cool with the oven after baking.

Cookware sets will last a lifetime so it is a good decision to buy the best that you can afford the first time. Look for brands that have a reputation for quality. You cannot go wrong with chefs secret cookware. To begin with, they are great beauties to own. And they are so durable; your young children will be married and have children of their own before you find the need to replace them.

The utensils consist of frying pans and different sizes of sauce pans that are non-stick and non-toxic. Thermometer knobs built into the lids helps regulate cooking temperatures. My Handy Kitchen Tool

I like putting colorful garnishes in my dishes. They make what I cook more attractive to my children’s eyes. I discovered long ago that they would eat more when the food is prepared with veggies or fruits in colorful shapes and designs. This is why my paring knife is invaluable in my kitchen.

This knife is small, only about 2 ½ to 4 inches long. It is designed with a plain edge like a chef’s knife but is much smaller. I consider this knife an extension of my hand as it makes peeling fruits and vegetables and slicing small ingredients very easy. I also use this to de-vein shrimps and removing seeds from peppers aside from using it to cut shapes out of different foods for garnishing.

Double Door Ref

When I got married, someone gave my wife and I a small ref. It was good until my son was born. After that our ref became full because of the baby stuff. We had to buy a two door ref. It was one of the best investments I made so far. Our new ref was and is so cool. The only downside is there’s so much space that we tend to stock it up with lots of food and leftovers. To keep our ref from smelling bad, all foods are kept in food storage containers. Good thing our new ref came with free food storage supplies.

Food storage supplies are composed of different size containers, baskets and bins. The best material for me is made from plastic. The good thing about plastic is they are durable. It won’t also affect the taste of the food. Also, when getting plastic food containers get see thru. That way it will be easier to tell what’s inside.
