Hot plates

June 26th, 2009

This gadget may refer to a simple trivet where you put hot dishes on or the more sophisticated stove with temperature controls. Hot plates are meant to keep food warm when it is not yet their time to be served. A hot plate heats very quickly and stays at a low temperature; just enough to keep the food warm without over cooking. A power indicator light indicates if it is on. This stove may have a no nonsense look but will be a functional accessory in the dining room or kitchen.

A hot plate has uses other than in the kitchen. It is practical for students living in dorms who need to heat up small amounts of food. It is also important equipment in a laboratory. Using a hot plate require certain safety precautions. Keep flammable materials away from the hot plate including paper products, volatile chemicals and other organic materials. Roll up sleeves to make sure they do not catch fire. Use only open containers. Do not attempt to heat a closed jar, can or other container as it could explode.
