A typical bread knife has a somewhat pointed but blunt tip on its end. However, there are other models with rounded ends or angled tips. For avid cooks, it is preferable to look for a moderately-priced bread knife made of high-carbon stainless steel. This type of blade will not dull quickly.
When the blade finally becomes dull, it can either be replaced or re-sharpened only by an expert or the manufacturer. The same teeth that cut very well into a loaf of bread require specialized sharpening skills. This is important as sharpening is one of the main drawbacks of bread knives serrated edge.
