cutting board

January 29th, 2010

There are several kitchen mainstays used for food preparation. Aside from knives, the cutting board provides the chopping platform for cutting pieces of food used for cooking and serving meals. Traditionally, cutting boards were mostly made of hardwoods. But advances in technology have seen the emergence of other cutting boards made of various substances.

But regardless of the type of material used, cutting boards can become a vehicle for food contamination if they are not used and cleaned properly. To ensure safety, wash cutting boards in hot soapy water immediately after use and occasionally sanitize it by adding chlorine to the water. Also, avoid using the same cutting board for raw food and ready-to-serve foods to prevent chances of food poisoning.
