Butcher block countertops are made of thick strips of hardwood that are glued together to form a solid surface. A maple butcher block is a favorite piece of equipment in the kitchen. Other favorite materials are oak, cherry and walnut. Almost any variety of wood can actually be made into a butcher block but harder species are easy to live with and will most likely last longer. They are also better looking.
