paring knife

There are other kinds of knives that are important in a well equipped kitchen. The paring knife is one of them. A paring knife is a small knife with a plain edge blade that is ideal for peeling and other small or intricate work (such as de-veining a shrimp, removing the seeds from a jalapeño, or cutting small garnishes). It is designed to be an all-purpose knife, similar to a chef’s knife, except smaller. Paring knives are usually between 6 and 10 cm (2½ and 4 inches) long.

A paring knife, although extremely useful in the kitchen isn’t just a utility knife. It is useful in cutting decorative garnishes such as a rose carved out of a radish or a food cup out of tomatoes or cucumber. They are useful in making designs in vegetables such as carrots or pumpkins. Be sure to have several of this very practical tool. You will have difficulty preparing a fruit or vegetable salad without one.
