Are there still places where you will not find cast iron cookware? You will find cast iron cookware in remote country homes as well as modern city dwellings. In stores, they are displayed side by side with gleaming non-stick aluminum ware, the symbol of the modern kitchen. Cast iron griddle is the more popular kind of cast iron cookware that we are familiar with. But did you know that there are also teapots and baking pans made of cast iron?

We have always associated cast iron cookware with campfire cooking. The reason for the popularity of this kind of cookware in camping is that you can use it on almost any form of fire, however crude. You can set it up on pieces of stone harboring wood flames in its midst. It may not sit as level as you would want it, but it will distribute heat just as evenly. You can set up a tripod and cook your favorite stew in a pot hanging from it. Give it time and it will cook your meat to your desired tenderness.
